Human: Handle with Compassion!

Do you wish that you had been born with an instruction manual for your mind? Are you curious about mindfulness and how it could help you to improve your life? Have you always wanted to learn how to meditate? If your answer is yes: Now you have the opportunity!

Join Dr Lyn McCormack as she facilitates Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) training in Rockhampton, October 2024.

What is MBSR?

MBSR is an eight-week, evidence-based program that combines mindfulness meditation and gentle movement.

  • Where did it come from?

MBSR was originally created by Jon-Kabat Zinn in the late 70s, to help individuals learn how to reduce stress, chronic pain, and improve mental and physical well-being.

  • How is it structured?

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a structured eight-week evidence-based program that combines mindfulness meditation and gentle movement practices.

  • Is it religious?

Although MBSR has Buddhist roots, it has been specifically developed as a non-religious mindfulness-based program that is accessible to all.

What are the benefits of MBSR?

MBSR is one of the most extensively researched mindfulness practices to date.

  • The Scientific Support

Scientific research shows that MBSR training helps reduce stress, chronic pain, anxiety and depression.

  • Does Your Weight Affect Your Health?

Mindfulness training can also improve your eating habits. For example, research supports that mindfulness training changes unhealthy habits of over, emotional and binge eating.

  • Why Practice Mindfulness?

When mindful, one typically chooses actions that take them towards as opposed to away from the life they desire for themselves, their family and community.

How does it work?

The simple fact is that you cannot be mindful and mindless at the same time! Despite the widespread appeal of “multi-tasking” the truth is that your mind can only ever be present and mindful or distracted, on automatic pilot and mindless.

  • When you learn the skills of mindfulness you learn how to flick the switch of awareness that gives you the choice: mindful director of your life or mindless slave to your habits? When you learn how to be present with mindfulness: you get to make a choice.

  • When you gain mindfulness skills you develop the capacity to let go of harmful habits that would otherwise lead to stress, anxiety, depression and the maintenance of chronic pain.

  • When you learn how to mindfully place yourself in the driver’s seat of your mind; you learn how to create a vital and vibrant life instead of mindlessly enabling an automatic and potentially unhealthy one.

  • As Best-Selling Author and Spiritual Teacher Eckart Tolle has so rightly said: “The present moment is all we have”.

  • And in those who use food to improve their state of mind: when you apply mindfulness skills to your eating behaviour you can also learn how to undermine unhealthy over, emotional and binge eating habits.
